The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath is the best story Lovecraft ever wrote and one of the most unconventional and fascinating fantasy stories ever told.

it's sci-fi but it has a similar feel. unfortunately silverberg didn't draw on a bunch of other short stories so it isn't quite as dense with lore.

I haven't read anything else by him, but from reviews by silverberg fans, it seems to be a weird mix of his earlier golden age/erotica and later new waveish style that not many people like. I loved it though, and it was more exploratory than other sci-fi I've read while still having a little bit of an old school aesthetic.

Lovecraft's dreamlands is the greatest fictional world ever created. Shame he died so early and he couldn't explore it more. Im sure he would've made his magnum opus if he had lived past 50.

Perfect mix of comfy adventure setting with many mysteries and with a looming unease and dread over everything.
I really would like to read more about the dreamlands. There is always Clark Ashton Smith with a similar feeling und quite some of his stories could take place there.

It’s a very cool weird fantasy. It has a few darker moments, but it’s mostly a long, surreal, moody, dreamlike adventure. I liked it a lot. Also, the Cats of Ulthar are pretty based.
