Philosophies like stoicism are not to "impress" anyone, they are helpful guidelines to perhaps make you act in a way that will improve your life regardless of others.
Most of you are cynical that self-actualization can surpass external obsession over sex and I can see your point, however stoics would just say that the lust is in you and you can control it, same with pain/suffering.
