So, /lit/, simple question for you: how is the pdf support on Kindle? Thinking about getting an ereader, but the ability to load from my big library of pdf ebooks and read them well is key.

Alternately, are there any ereaders that blow Kindle out of the water? I know iPad is great but it's way out of my price range.

Download a free program called Calibre, it will convert .pdf to the kindle's .mobi format and send it to the device.

Kindle plus Duokan.

Good pdf support, and the addition of epub.

PDF support is good.

Neat, thanks everyone.

Will this .mobi format load images alright? I was thinking of using a Kindle to read comics/manga as well, if possible.

Yeah, of course it'll be in black and white...

Most manga is in black and white, and I'm sure I could deal with the comics being so too.

Lastly, the 3G version sounds cool, but is it worth the extra $50?

In my opinion, no, but i'm a cheapfag.
It can be useful if you travel a lot (ie days or weeks at a time with no internet access) really quite useful actually, the browser is decent and Whispernet is pretty baller (though you are charged for using it via 3G)

Get it with that option if you're a wealthy traveler.

Wait, you're charged? I thought it was free!

Really? I wasn't aware of this. You mean they charge the credit card you used to buy the Kindle?

JUST for emailing things to your dedicated kindle address (feature of Whispernet), it's like £2.50 per item, charged to your amazon account, it's free to browse the internet.

I got the 3G version for christmas, it's fucking loud in my room because of interference w/ speakers.

I don't leave my house so I guess it's not that good for me

gentouch ftw. its cheap, it's NOT proprietary, wifi is great, reads all my pdf books, and nobody tries to rape me for more.
