>he has only read books in English

Lol. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to have such a small brain. Becoming fluent in foreign languages and reading literature in various tongues expands your mind in ways that is absolutely inconceivable to your average /lit/ plebeian. But please, feel free to keep jerking yourselves off over which English translation of your favorite meme philosopher is the most DEEP. I’ll be reading classic Japanese literature in the exact way it’s author intended it to be digested in.

Your opinion on the Spanish language is truly a pity. Anyone who sincerely studies the language can see for himself that the Spanish language is one of the most elegant of the existent Romance languages, perhaps its only serious competition being Italian. The language is phonetically quite similar to what Latin would've sounded like. The language of course is subject to great variance, since the Spaniards were one of Europe's greatest conquering peoples. That means that the dialectical variance can range from profound lows (the Amerindian yap, the nasal Caribbean negro woof), to soaring linguistic highs (the pure and mellifluous Castilian of Salamanca, the Italianized tonal zigzag of Argentina). Hatred of the Spanish language is truly a sign of pleb-hood. If you're going to hate a language, please pick on the barbarian tongue of the Slavs, or the effeminate monotone droning of the Nords. The Italic languages are impeccable.

Once a gentleman asked me, "where are the remnants of civilization? I know of none!" I replied very sternly that I knew of some bordering the Sierra de Gredos. He said "In Spain? You must be taking the piss out of me!" I just smiled. It was a sweet moment and I am happy that Englishman of ignorance didn't know about the oasis of the Spanish sierras. God forbid he ever visit and try to teach old Spaniards at the bar how to "drink like an Englishman!"

And China is so culturally impoverished nowadays that barely anything literary or philosophical happens outside of Hong Kong or Taiwan.

English has the most bestest poetry and biggest amount of books to read. Sino languages are a waste of time unless you're into Alibaba store descriptions and eight legged essay autism. Euro and Russ languages are slightly useful if you want to read specific works in their original form and have contemporary utility for communicating with those audiences. Arabic, if you want to read the Quran and communicate with your captor. Latin and Greek, Hebrew and Sanskrit, Tamil and Egyptian, Sumerian, Akkadian, etc - if you don't want to communicate with the living and think their is value in the writings of ancient people.
