From a purely cynical point of view how would you go about writing a book that would make you a lot of money?

You don't. Unless you already have made a name for yourself, you won't be able to do a cynical cashgrab, shit will read too much like one.

The obvious things like writing in a hot genre and touching current topics/trends is obviously a good start but without genuine interest and enthusiasm towards it, it's not doable for random fucks. Art simply isn't a great "make fast money" scheme even the most commercially orientated ideas need more.
