when does this book get good?
So far through 25 pages it is the most mediocre thing I have ever read and I question whether or not I should keep reading

>> No.13945610

Never. You got memed into reading YA for Americans. Just as bad as Kurt Vonnegut

>> No.13945758

>>13945601
If it isnt funny to you, that means its about you.

>> No.13945784

The protagonist goes around with some old Roman philosophy book, how quaint.

Or maybe it’s just shit

>> No.13945860

i want to write my thesis about this book but i have no idea what i could write about

>> No.13945939

It took me until about 40 or 50 pages in to "get" it. I was laughing and smirking the rest of way.

If you don't find it funny, it's because you're a lazy shithead pedant like Ignatius and the other morons on here.

Imagine considering dropping a book 25 pages in

>> No.13946142

>>13946133
I dropped Atlas Shrugged 5 pages (0.43%) in

Who is responsible for this abortion of a thread.

For me? Second page. I'm currently reading and I think it's great.

>t. I read all of Twilight.

>> No.13947256

not my favorite book by any means, many of the characters are clumsy caricatures, but there is one scene of note. him masturbating thinking about his childhood pet dog.

>> No.13947397

>>13945601
I found the first 100 pages endearing, the second 100 a little samey, and by page 300-something--or whatever the length, I was more than two thirds of the way through by that time--I had just lost interest. Never finished it, still a shame about the poor guy taking his life.

>> No.13947409

the ending is a bullshit edit. everyone knows what the real ending was. and it sure af wasn't
>and they lived happily ever after
hint: ignatius was a self insert and the book was a note, not a novel

>> No.13947421

>>13947409
Yeah, the ending almost ruined the whole novel for me. There's no way Toole wrote that.

>> No.13947443

>>13947409
Nah, i think you’re wrong there pal. Ignatius is not a self insert, and he’s certainly not the type to off himself.

Incidentally, have you seen those interviews with toole’s ma? Oof, she’s a piece of work

>> No.13947473

>>13947421
I agree. I liked the way it was sort of wrapped up with everyone but Ignatius. He was a disgusting ass and didn't deserve anything except being committed.

>> No.13947480

>>13947443
Somebody here said their great aunt dated Toole in the late 50s. I wonder if it's true.

>>13947443
i dunno man, maybe he just filled it with enough bullshit to make it plausibly deniable. lots of pressure on ignatius to get a damn job, and after watching her as you suggested, no question that she might have been able to exert such pressure on the lad. squeezing out a book from him drop by drop.

Man, I'd want to kill myself too if that thing was badgering me.

This novel is hilarious. The stuff with the professor is my favorite.
