This, and he's not memey enough like the other authors we talk about but don't understand.

His work is also heavily philosophical (much more than lol absurdism) but because he's a fiction writer and dramatist, the philosophy pseuds here ignore him.

If that was the deal breaker then /lit/ wouldnt be discussing half the authors it does.

Late Beckett is best Beckett. Everyone should read Company.

The Beckett industry is weird, the only people that actually care about him are people that want to be him so you've got a industry within another dying industry filled with nobodies receiving awards from awards nobody has heard of leaving a tail of dead careers.

Anyone else actually like his poetry? I only ever hear him praised for his drama but he wasn’t a terrible poet either. Obviously no Heaney or Yeats but it’s worth reading.

I'm interested in his early work: More Pricks than Kicks, Dream of Fair to Middling Women. He was a cute Weiningerian in those days.

I'm a thorough pseud and I've always loved Beckett. In my mind, he's more of patron saint than Artaud

>> No.13912726

Personally, I find Flann O'Brien to be far more enjoyable to read than Beckett. Do love his plays, especially when he managed to get them filmed (can't possibly sit through another undergraduate-driven rendition of Godot), but he has a tendency to bloat up on the page. Also, naturally, I haven't read all of his work, so it's not like I can speak accurately about him.

>> No.13912863

He's actually the reason I stopped being Christian when I read a monologue from Endgame at like five years old.

>> No.13912878

Where do I start with Beckett? I loved studying Waiting for Godot in high school, I read that shit over and over.
