My only gripe was Sonya. I just couldn't really imagine a person being as selfless and pure as her. Though I might just be a cynic.

Yes, he even has hot sister.

I think it's perfectly believable. It's rare but it's not impossible.

Also can anyone give me their thoughts on the epilogue? Does raskolnikov just convert? Is there supposed to be a symbolism or meaning or something, or is it just some kind of Christian moral?

Sonya is just religious plus willing to make sacrifices for her family. That's not so rare a combination (not that it is any less admirable for it), though it rarely goes to Sonya's extreme. I don't find her particularly unbelievable.

His dream just showed him that his philosophy will lead to more and more suffering. In the end he just decided to pursuit being a good man.

Is this the only big Dostoevsky work which ends with positive ending? I mean in Brothers K only Aliosha gets somewhat positive one and the rest is negative , in Idiot Myskin ends up in asylum again , Notes from Underground he's distances himself from world even more and Demons Nikolai hangs himself

This is one of the books that changed my life. I read it when I was an edgy teenager, and my way of thinking was very close to that of Raskolnikov.

Reading it humbled me, and brought me that one step closer to god.

Ah. Now I understand why I had trouble relating and immersing myself into this book. I wasn’t an edgy napoleonic little boy when I read it.

>Does Raskolnikov just convert?
No, but the seed is planted in him for it to germinate, the narrator ends the story before we see that transformation because it would've another full story in itself.
>Is there supposed to be a symbolism or meaning or something, or is it just some kind of Christian moral?
As >>13894342 pointed out, his philosophy will germinate everywhere and cause much suffering, as it arguably happened in reality (Dosto would certainly say it did).
Raskolnikov in prison will begin to reform under Sonya's love for him.

It's more of a bittersweet ending than a positive one.
One interesting note about Brothers K - Dostoevsky originally planned for that work to be first in a trilogy that would be called "Life of a great Sinner" and he planed to have Aliosha become a revolutionary in the second part of the trilogy; I think he wanted him to lose his faith and become an atheist and then in the end he would find God again.

Crime and Punishment: the Crime being naively believing Dostoyevsky to be a good writer, the due Punishment being having to read through the entirety of it without killing yourself.
