I'm an aspiring photographer and a friend of mine has just got his first ever publishing credit in a magazine. Knowing he requires some publicity material and that I shoot portraits he has tasked with providing him with some photographs that convey the image of an author. The brief is to make him appear intellectual and striking, academic scholar like. I had thought of taking him to a river and having him reading with a cup of coffee at sunset, but other than that I have no ideas. I didn't think a standard studio set up would be appropriate. Can you help me out with any ideas people of /lit/? I'm not too avid a reader unfortunately so I know nothing of author iconography, thank you. Pic unrelated

You don’t have to do much man, most philosophers’ and authors’ photos are just them against a plain background, or maybe some books. You need to let the work speak for itself.

I kek'd. I find that scene ridiculous, no offense. Most pictures of authors I've seen are black & white (even if they have access to colored cameras) if you want to go the traditional route.

Why coffee at sunset? Besides being gay, it should at least be coffee at sunrise
