i work from home most of the time. it does require a fair amount of discipline. i have found the most important thing is to make a work space that is separate from the rest of the house. i have a room set aside as my office, which only contains work stuff- desk, computers, printer, bookcase with technical book etc. the only exception is a guitar which i noodle with while i'm waiting for inspiration to strike.
going to my office room feels like going to work. of course i take breaks and eat with my family at lunchtime. i have a do not disturb sign if i am concentrating on something so they know not to bother me. it works pretty well. also it has a tax advantage since i can claim it as a work location.
