why is religion so hard to define as a concept?

why is it hard?
religion is just there to replace what we don't understand.
it's like before we understood how it rains there was a rain god.

It's best to define religion as a set of rites and ceremonies that is supposed to (re-)connect you to divine being, divine entities, or divine states (see etymology of re-lig-ion).
Then there is the more individual concept of inner beliefs, creeds, and faith, which is first and foremost a thing between you and your deity.

>rites/ceremonies
>the divine
this has already been replaced with art(music being the king), no need to lump everything into one category because that's stupid.

you mean your own madness? same thing, this is expressed through art.

trying to lump everything into religion is what creates stupid people.

Because words change meaning depending on the context. They're just a tool we use to interact with other people, don't take them too seriously.
