are these translations good?

/lit/ memes against them. From what I understand they lean towards literal translations, which results in awkwardness occasionally.

It was one of the most painful book to read, and I mean that in a good way. It's one of those books so close to reality, that makes you ask - "why even write this". I always found Notes to be a special work for Dostoevsky, much more closer to something like Gogol's Overcoat, than the rest of Dosto's novels, even if I generally prefer them over Notes.

I've read Notes, The double, the gambler and now in reading The Demons this summer, going for Crime and punishment after.
Dostoevskij always finds a way to speak to my heart, but also makes me laugh.
Only shame is that I don't know russian

i am really bad at concentrating and it is really hard for me to read
the only reason i was able to finish this one is because i read it in one day
historically when i read a longer book about 50% of the time i will not read it for 2 weeks after getting a few hundred pages in. and then its really hard to finish
now may be a good time to read his other longer books though since im in the mood
