What do you think of this book? I've only gotten to chapter 7 but I love it so far. My favorite character so far is the father. He is of course bad but there is so much back story you can make up for him to justify his actions of drinking and beating all the way down to his philosophy. He is a very interesting character. What are your views?

Best American novel
Huck was a great hero/anti-hero.
Raised by a drunk who beat him when he found out he had learned how to read.
A classic in every sense of the word.

I agree. I don't know how people can say Moby Dick is. That chapter with the knots..... I couldn't do it.

Moby Dick is great AFTER you ploughed through the thing. Reading it is like traveling on a long sea voyage - exciting and boring at times - but a good book overall.

The bit where Tom has them make Jim's escape difficult for dramatic effect cracks me up every time.
