I'd say that Atlas Shrugged is a better introduction to her philosophy. However, The Fountainhead is shorter and given the length of Atlas Shrugged, that might be something to take into consideration. For that reason the Fountainhead would be better if you want to commit to finish what you start without biting off more than you can chew. The Fountainhead is thoroughly Randian and you couldn't be said to be ignorant if you read that and never picked up another work by her ever again, but if not than it can be a stepping stone into what is rightly called the magnum opus of Objectivism.
