Is Beowulf a good read? Also which version/translation is best?

I prefer the Chickering translation because it includes both the old English and the translation on opposing pages, so you can check the translation as you go, and it's also a faithful translation.

It's a great read, entertaining and poignant. Howell Chickering and Ray Liuzza are faithful translators from what I've researched, both have the original Old English on facing pages. I personally prefer Chickering's translation due to it's brevity which immitates the original's.
