Who were the writers in the final days of Rome when it was collapsing?

I've heard that there were people who were predicting the fall of Rome before it began to happen, I wanted to see how similarly they lined up with what people today are saying about the decline of the USA

Augustine, I think?
Boethius was writing after the Roman Empire fell.

But this interests me, as well. Cicero also lived in a decadent era (the fall of the Republic).

Lots of Christian writers/theologians
Eusebius, tertullian, ambrose, plotinus

Orosius was a contemporary of Augustine and wrote a history book. Macrobius' "Saturnalia" was written near the end too and takes the form of a dinner party discussion about Roman traditions and culture. Sidonius Apollinaris was writing during the collapse - his letters are interesting insight imo.

As for predicting the fall, Augustine says Rome is destined to fall (and contrasts this with the heavenly city of God that will last forever) whereas Ammianus Marcellinus describes Rome as the eternal city in his history iirc (though that was written before the Goths started attacking) so opinions were mixed. As for others it appears to mostly be Christians and pagans blaming each other for the gods/God abandoning them.

This is so gay and retarded. The barbarians were massacring Romans and sacking cities (especially putting effort into toppling useless status for shits and giggles) with their dicks and balls flopping around? 19th century academic art was such cancer.
