Where do you find your writing inspiration /lit/?

I find myself heavily influenced by comedy, especially the comedians from Black and White Era. Like Laurel & Hardy, Marx Brothers and most notably Chaplin. I don't know what it is from that era, except to say that for me dialog has more to do with body language even if it is not explicitly written or said.

Even in those old black and white movies nothing was explicitly said, but entirely through body language you knew what they were saying.

I don't know what you guys use for inspiration, I just thought I would share. I think I'm going to go re-read Chaplin's Autobiography which is great by the way. Good night.

You know, I saw a thread awhile back about autobiographies and realized the only one I've read is Frederick Douglass' (which I did enjoy), and this looks like one I would be interested in. Thanks OP.

The saddest thing about the book is that you can tell that he loved America, but he was forced to migrate to Europe due to McCarthy era politics. He was still a patriot and even though having his American citizenship revoked be bought war bounds and gave a lot of his wealth away to charities.

You know the whole Modern Times being a satire on industrial society, that got him in a lot of trouble in America. At one point not mentioned in the book he got his citizenship revoked permanently by J. Edgar Hoover.

It's a great book. Early days of Hollywood were a weird time for sure.

Chaplin was awesome. I love his response in his hearing about whether he was a communist sympathizer.

"I'm not a communist agitator, I am an agitator for peace."
