What are some of the best books that you've ever read? I need something to read, because I have so much time. Finals are over..

Bump for relevance to my interests. I'll also add that I liked Harry Potter (yes I know it's kid lit, whatever). Who wants to help me find the next HP?

By far the most enjoyable thing I've ever read.

Short plot summary: A Roman mercenary in something like 435BC receives a head wound. His short-term memory pretty much dies and he can't remember anything from one day to the next. Coincidentally, he can also now see spirits and the gods. He keeps a journal and reads as much of it as he can each day, assuming someone reminds him. This is the journal.

It's a fairly easy read as long as you're attentive. Due to Latro's memory, something that actually is important might not seem so to him and he won't make a big deal out of it in the journal.

Also, Latro in the Mist is only the first two books in the trilogy. Soldier of Sidon follows.

There is another book in this series: Soldier of Sidon. It continues the story of Latro and is very good.

Well, if you like a little sci-fi, for a stand-alone novel I highly recommend Doorways in the Sand by Roger Zelazny. The writing and the style are fantastic and the story's pretty solid, too.

You'd be making a mistake if you let that keep you from reading these books. They make the ancient world come alive in a way no other book I have ever read has managed.

(I'm just some other guy)
I've read the first two. The story is good, the characters are alright. The writing is weak, I found it very light and very accessible (I'm talking about the quality of the English here).
HOWEVER, it was translated from Swedish so I cannot say if that is the original author's fault or if the translator "dumbed it down" (either on purpose or just by accident). The story IS good but it's really more of a "beach read", though it does bring up some topics about violence against women.
