Trying too hard, not trying hard enough and overly self-conscious. Probably use edgy humor to keep people at a distance because you’re afraid that you’ll get hurt. You weren’t popular in k-12, so you don’t know how to socialize or be with other people, and don’t know social cues, body language and other forms of communication that are learned through socialization. You’re also probably naturally smart, so you get discouraged when you run into something that requires self-interrogation and genuine self improvement, deciding to only play to your strengths as an indirect consequence. In short, you were never taught the rules for the game, and when you fail at it, you turn to avoidance, rather than improvement.
The solution is simple, lucky enough for you. Step 1, read as much fiction as you can, because it naturally builds empathy and indirectly teaches socialization as you see it play out. Step 2: either 2 tabs of acid, or 4 grams of psilocybin mushrooms. If you go with the mushrooms, grind them up as fine as possible and steep them with loose leaf tea for ten minutes. Strain out the tea leaves, and drink the tea. Make sure you have a good friend with you, and go with the experience. Everything will make more sense afterwards. Step 3: get a therapist; everyone in the world should be seeing a good therapist on a regular basis.
Repeat step 2 as necessary, every year or so and you’ll be fine. It’ll all be okay. You just gotta get the bad shit out, make peace with it, and start putting good shit in.

So you can have an objective third party to tell your shit to, simply enough.
