when i was fifteen i fell in love with a same-aged girl who knew both ancient greek and latin. she liked all the same books as i did; she read all the philosophers and poets i liked, and went to a prestigious academic school: one of the most elite girls' schools in my country.

i was brutally rejected. going to the same mass as i did, she would snicker every time i passed her.
