Sup /lit/, for Christmas, I ask my finally some books. I really love Dostoievsky, Emil Cioran,Nietzsche. Do you guys mind putting your favorite philosophical books from these authors or from some alike.

Thanks a lot !

btw, i'm a french canadian, so maybe the fact I am a lot more comfortable reading french will help.

Sartre and Camus would suit you fine.

The Dream of a Ridiculous Man, really short but so powerful

>> No.1370280

It would help to know what you've read by these three authors.

>> No.1370293

I've read only a few ( with the dream of a ridiculous man).
I'm too lazy to translate the names haha.
Just put the best ones you've read and maybe a small description of why you like it ? ^^

Thx

Ok then, what do you like about those specific authors?
And are you looking for fiction or non-fiction?

>> No.1370316

Fiction or non-fiction I don't care.
I'm pessimist and depressive (don't worry lol).
These novels make me live, the ones that talk about.
Themes: Sens of life, the fact god doesn't exist, absurdity, death, nihilism, suffering, craziness, suicide.

thanks to you my friend !

These three have nothing in common in fact, except when you like them because they provide "angry lonely man" narrative of a kind. Anyway, you can take, say, some popular conservative Gesellschaftskritik' s "Masters" like Sloterdijk or Pascal Bruckner. I hate these two myself but, well, if you like those three maybe you will like these two.

That's funny because Dostoyevsky always talks about God and Jesus, and he's a fervent believer; and Nietzsche despises nihilism.

Anyway, you're obviously a male between the age of 16 and 21, quite lonely and more of the 'intellectual' type. What I suggest you is to properly read those authors without looking for something to relate to. I, too, was interested in Nietzsche when I was 15-16 years old, but then I read and reread him properly and I found out it wasn'twhat i thought it was. Actually he's very interesting, but not if you read him like a depressed teenager. Otherwise, I would suggest you Céline, Artaud, and Lautréamont.

>Dostoyevsky, Nietzsche and Cioran

If this a "make a list of 3 completely unrelated authors" thread then I would suggest the following
>Pierre Guyotat, Tricia Warden and Nathalie Sarraute

>> No.1370360

Camus and Sartre fit perfectly with the whole existentialist thing.

For someone more modern and quirky, try some Philip K Dick for philosophy in science fiction.

OP's looking for
>craziness
>pessimism
>suffering
>absence of god
>absurdity
>suicide
Céline and Artaud are very related (Lautréamont a little bit but he might enjoy it as well).

Are you a cute twink, OP?

>> No.1370483

cute twink? that means...? like a cute guy?
lol, I guess I'm not bad ?

Twink is slang for an young, boyish gay man with little to no body hair.

rather feminine, no?

Camus is definitely worth it.
