Started reading this on /lit/'s suggestion.

Read the first one well enough, kinda slow in the middle but I liked some of the characters well enough that I finished it. Most of the big shockers lost most of their weight because the writing got predictable long before the author got around to actually letting something happen. Basically I came to expect anyone strong, brave, honorable, commanding or righteous in anyway would be destroyed by betrayal, some dastardly plot or just by accident or plot convenience.

Now I'm about half way through the second book and It's really becoming a chore and it feels like I'm putting far more effort into it than enjoyment I get from it.

I get it's trying to be all dark and gritty but it's almost comical at this point. It's like the author is trying so hard to distance himself from your traditional fantasy tales he ends up with a world inhabited primarily by ye olde dick dastardly all curling his mustachio and plotting along to do ill deeds.

While this was all amusing at the start even tyrion's chapters are becoming dull. The books so far have one note to play it seems, all the plotting and scheming gets old after awhile and without a hero to triumph over a villain once in a while to mix things up there really isn't any surprise when the next even-remotely good character dies by some hidden plot. I'm fairly certain Robb's going to get his soon enough I'd be surprised he lasted this long if it weren't for the painfully slow pace of the book.

Does it get any better, or are the next to basically the same? I just can't seem to get myself to care about who's deceiving who anymore. Unless I'm like a page away from the dragons suddenly appearing out of no where and eating most of the seven kingdoms I don't really think I'll be finishing this one.

You seem to have horrible taste. Stop reading them and try this instead.

It's like daytime soaps for tolkien faggots, you're not going to miss anything by dropping it.

Well there's no accounting for bad taste. Yes, stop reading now. Maybe rent Reign of Fire to watch while your dad fucks you in the ass?

I think that a Song of Ice and Fire is the closest thing us il/lit/erates have to /mu/'s In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.

So either you are a cleverly disguised troll, or a terrible human being.

But In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is a troll album. It's like Ayn Rand is here.

So is a song of ice and fire, the point is for it to suck and everyone to praise it, that's why it works so well.

That will be in a dance with dragons you fool, after they eat half the populous they'll start a party and they'll all dance along merrily then the manticores will poison all their roasted humans and it will start all over again.

Except now with manticores.

I'm a couple hundred pages into Thrones... not really into it yet. It's pimped so much on this board (and others) that I had to check it out. There are too goddamn many characters.
