I think that most "classics" are shit pretty shit and that the last great wave of writing came from the 1910s to the 1990s. Before that, things are hardly more interesting than impactful, and past that young adult fiction has been the most domineering genre because of the financial success of Harry Potter.

Also Haruki Murakami is absolutely dogshit.
