There's this anime called Neon Genesis Evangelion which is really fricking dope. It's a mecha but, wait for it, it's actually waaaay more than that. It plays with religious imagery (there's tons of references to Judeo-Christian mythology like angels and all that jazz), Freudian themes such as depression, postmodern storytelling (but in a good way, not in a neomarxist way lol) and loads of philospical discussion. Also, lots of ROBOTS KICKING ASS. What more could an otaku want haha?

There's also movie called End of Evangelion which is SUPER trippy but absolutely amazing. Deffo one to watch.

The Count of Monte Cristo is my favourite novel and I watched pic related because I thought I’d find it funny to see how it got messed with by Japanese influence, but despite the weird setting change and all the departures from the original story I enjoyed it, even noticed a few visual references that showed despite the adaptations changes, they had read the book
