So I read The Cement Garden today because my ex gave it to me and for some reason every like third page is spattered with dried-in blood prints.

It is a decent read bro you should read it. Nothing special as far as style is concerned, I thought the whole story was really depressing and I just felt fuckin drained after reading it. It is one of those novels that are so obviously predisposed to psychoanalytic interpretation. Anyone else read this? What did you guys make of it

No-one has read this riveting tale of incest and coming-of-age-except-not-really?

Yeah uh I did not get that from this novel nor did I get the sense that it was a "beautiful tragedy" as my ex put it.

"Social services nightmare" comes to mind, sorry if that is not mythopoetic for every1 here.

I'm reading Saturday by McEwan right now and by far it is one of the shittiest books of all time

>> No.1365758

ian mcewan writes the same story every time

his prose is nice and he gets pretty well into the psychology of his characters, but i wouldn't consider anything he's written canon
