Hey guys. Like several of the threads I'm seeing, I'm trying to do some personal reading and not sure where to start. I'm looking for books concerning topics in history, social issues, economics, politics, and the like. Since I have a great capacity and enjoyment for analysis and understanding, I read books thoroughly, often rereading sections and annotating things. For the same reason, I'll limit myself to one or two substantial books per season. So far I have lined up:

The American Political Tradition (finishing that up now)
The Cash Nexus
Guns, Germs, and Steel

And I'm looking for suggestions. I'm up for modern social issues, or historical stuff. And though beggars can't be choosers, I'd really enjoy a good analysis of China's modern history, or a wide survey of world history.

Thanks all.

Pic totally unrelated, but it's a great shoe that, after hundreds of miles of backpacking and cycling, looks like new after a wash.

I recommend Ernest Gellner's book "Thought and Change." Really interesting book. Generally an examination of political philosophy in the modern world from a sociological viewpoint.

Well... some people in my place, and who do what I do, would own tennis shoes, hiking boots, and cycling cleats. I just wear one pair and it last forever for the same price, maybe less, than three different pairs that last a year each.

i wonder if i will every be brave enough to go hiking or just for a nice hill walk. i have to walk through suburbia to get to the nice hills here though & that lovely wide patcjh of land might have a farmer wanting to shoot me with a shotgun. i might bump into people kitted up for the walk while im wearing hipster/aspie hybrid clothes ;_;

You shouldn't be talking in the library anyhow.

And it's mostly night time now.
