Pope John Paul II created more saints than all his predecessors of the past several centuries put together, and he had a special affinity with the Virgin Mary. His polytheistic hankerings were dramatically demonstrated in 1981 when he suffered an assassination attempt in Rome, and attributed his survival to intervention by Our Lady of Fatima: 'A maternal hand guided the bullet.' One can't help wondering why she didn't guide it to miss him altogether....

I'm not a troll. Just was reading it, and that part came along and made me laugh. I though it might make a few others on /lit/ chuckle as well....
PS- Why does every thread have to be labeled as a troll thread? Gets old!

Not every thread is labeled as a troll thread

Most religion threads are, though, because most religion threads are trolls, and if they're not they might as well be

It certainly did make me chuckle OP, i'm currently reading it too, right at the end now though, last 50 or so pages.
He gets a little caught up in memes and other things, talking about them for a little too long in my opinion but i really am enjoying this book!

I've wondered what this book was about for a long time, but I've avoided it because Dawkins seems like a the epitome of atheism. He is just as dogmatic and ignorant in his atheist beliefs as fundamentalist Christians are.

His absolute surety of God's nonexistence is a turn-off, as is his dismissal of everything related to religion. He would be the kind of person who wouldn't be interested in how religion relates to cultural morphology because "lol God doesn't exist you irrational fool".

>> No.1364398

>>1363791

That's actually not true. I remember seeing him and Hitchens talk at a debate about how religion has real value in things like music/literature/whathaveyou. They have great appreciation for that part of it. So, more the mythology of religion, like the Greek or Norse mythology.
