What company makes the best notebooks for travel writing and why is it Moleskine?

This is what I've been using last 2 years.
Plastic cover so doesn't fall off, pocket in middle for stuffing papers, and I can staple poems or whatever in front and back. Saw some Moleskins at Staples the other day.. If I had excellent handwriting I'd probably switch but sadly no.

Moleskine paper is way too thin, any kind of wettish ink will go through and potentially on to the other page. Rhodia Webnotebooks are good, but the cover is a bit too soft, I don't think mine would have held up well if I took it everywhere with me. I bought a Leuchtturm1917 and although the paper is a bit too white for my taste, it's seems to be the best all-rounder.

They are of good quality, but too expensive. Here one of those small ones(see OP) cost around $18.

Highjacking for a tangential topic.

I used to journal with a fountain pen and I want to start up again, but I've been out of the game for a long while. Is the Lamy Safari still the go to budget fountain pen, and what would y'all recommend as far as inks? I used to use a lot of Noodler's, but, as I said, I haven't payed attention to this area in a long time and am out of the loop.

Lamy safari is shit desu; invest in a twsbi 580 diamond with aurora black ink or maybe some diamine ink... should be entry level enough and below 100$

I'm looking around in the $50 - $100 range right now. I liked the Safari when I had it but I definitely remember it felt a little lacking overall, though I think the price to value ratio was pretty fantastic. I'm seeing good things about the twsbi so I'll look into that.

I think I'll go for this. Just found my old journal, too, so that will be interesting to read through. Last entry is Feb 25th, 2015.

Why yes I use printing paper and a holiday inn ballpoint pen, how could you tel?

Meh Leuchtturm and Rhodia make comparable quality journals. And both handle fountain pens better than moleskine paper. However I'm a moleskine fanboy because they are simply very pleasing objects with a great build quality and a fantastic minimalist design. You always know what you're getting with Moleskine.
