What do you think, /lit/? I've got quantity, but have I got quality? Yes, I know I read a lot of the same authors.

>> No.1362549

I think it's pretty good for what it is. I would suggest more Faulkner though!

>> No.1362556

Faulkner sucks. As I Lay Dying was punishment enough. I didn't even know what it was about half the time, even though I'm used to (now) reading Southern gothic books. Flannery o'Connor was better, anyway.

4chan......im still tryin to figure you out........

Just because something is above you it doesn't mean it sucks, The sound and the fury is better than anything on that list.

>> No.1362581

I thought about making a reading list for 2011, but I'm never sure how much to put on it. I know I'll feel like a loser if I can't get it done, but there's really no way to properly estimate how much of my time school will take up.

I would personally remove Murakami, though I judge that solely on having only read Norwegian Wood and a few of his short stories. My main disappointment in him is that all his main characters seem to be the same apathetic recluse, and the reading just feels dry and empty.

In his place though, I highly suggest Rudyard Kipling, quite an enchanting and enjoyable author.

I REMEMBER WHEN I USED TO RELIGIOUSLY MAKE MY PRETTY PICTURE WITH THE BOOKS I'D READ, THEN I JUST MADE A GOODREADS ACCOUNT

Props for Flannery O'Conner.

>> No.1364804

Didn't know there's a book called "Bret Easton Ellis"

Well ok, but I would have also accepted:

>all his main characters seem to be the same average Japanese males

I remember when i used goodreads for a week or two. then i just made a shelfari since it has a superior user interface.

>> No.1364823

I like your style OP. It's been fun following your reading by seeing this picture expanded.

How did you like Dance, Dance, Dance? I'm thinking about getting it soon.

>> No.1365037

I must own that edition of the Flannery O'Connor collected stories

>> No.1365766

Dance, Dance, Dance was alright. If you only read one Murakami novel, read The Wind Up Bird Chronicle. It's much better than his other stuff, although long and demanding.

I'm working on my list of things to read next year. Based on what I've read so far, what do people think I should try?

>> No.1366218

I read Slaughter house five this year too

>> No.1366224

OP how did you like fanny & zooey, have you read catcher before?

>> No.1367494

oh hai Sunhawk

>> No.1367495

What did you think of 'Of Human Bondage', OP?

LES MIS, LES MIS, LES MIZZZZZ!!!
<3 that book, man. Long, but so worth it. I still feel like I've personally known about 75% of the characters, and it's been three years since I've read it. Planning on rereading soon, though.

I have both, because where Shelfari fails, Goodreads succeeds, and vice versa.

HEY LOOK THE SAME ATTENTION WHORE WHO ALWAYS POSTS "LOOK AT WHAT I READ THIS YEAR." DON'T FUCKING CARE.

>>1362556
You're an idiot. The Sound and the Fury is better than any book in that picture. Flannery O'Connor? Get the fuck out.

>> No.1367531

How do you make those book cover collages?

>> No.1367594

- Franny and Zooey (or Fanny and Zooey, as you called it) is a very good book, one of my favourites this year. I've read most of the TCITR,but didn't like it.

- Hi to whoever said hi to me. It's me, Sunhawk, but I'm posting as Anonymous today.

- Of Human Bondage was alright. There were 200 boring pages in the middle, but the rest was good. The author's best work is The Razor's Edge.

- I made the picture by copying and pasting pictures of the internet into Paint, and arranging them. I think I prefer it to the written list.

>> No.1367601

hey i'm the one who pointed you out. two questions now that you're free of the b&l haters:
-How's House of Spirits? worth reading?
-what's a good starting point for Atwood?

>> No.1367804

>>1367531
Not OP, but I make mine by pasting pictures together on paint. Works pretty alright.

>> No.1367846

House of the Spirits is a very good book, the ebst I've read by Allende. Similar in style to something like One Hundred Years of Solitude, but MUCH better.

Lady Oracle is good for Margaret Atwood. It has the exact same style as her other books (long flashbacks, unhappy main character), but isn't too long to read (400 pages). If you like that, then read The Robber Bride and The Blind Assassin.
