Sounds good, what philosophy would you recommend to someone who knows little about it?

>Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita

I 'understand' the world better through poetry than through philosophy because my mind is a jumbled chaos, and poems have this more instinctive sense of truth and meaning that I can use. Some prose narratives have a bit of this too. I always forget about a lot of this stuff until I go back to reading certain poems, and reading philosophy never puts me into that mindset, which is hard to describe.

I like philosophy and have read and attempted to write lots of it, but there is always something kind of sterile about it, like it's killing the thing it's trying to reach, and the more the system becomes elaborated, the more whatever central thing prompted its construction, which was maybe close to a truth, is kind of obscured and forgotten.

Im fully aware that I think this way because im dumb and my mind is a mess, but for some people literature does do the things you listed like giving practical advice, calming or elating the mind, helping understand the purpose of life, etc. it's just a lot more ambiguous about it.

Most of philosophy is not logical either. "You can't prove logic, your logical argument is therefore moot" is the maxim of a card carrying /lit/ pseud.

Truth is revealed through philosophy and the sciences (rationalism and empiricism). No one said those things were fun. Sure, literature can explore philosophical issues and express truths but if you really want the capital t truth you're looking in the wrong place. To claim otherwise is romanticism.

I hope you consider philosophy the search for truth and not just what came after Plato and the Greeks. If so, wouldn't you say that mythological and mythical texts, such as the Vedas, Eridu, Mahabharata, and even the Old Testament, are prone to transmit philosophical ideas that couldn't be otherwise, as through reason, for example?
