No one is living out their fantasies. Why do you think superheroes are so popular? People fantasize about being impossibly strong, smart, skilled, and righteous. But being the best isn't about what you do, it's about what you are. A person who seeks to constantly improve themselves will still likely go their whole lives never even getting close to winning an olympic sport, but they'll become more diligent, their drive and will to see things through and their optimism and resolve will increase. Being a great soldier isn't about being able to single handedly win a war, it's about being able to go into a war, fight and die, and know that no matter what you'll do you'll still lose anyways, and yet choosing to fight all the same.

Art isn't escapism. It's aesthetic splendor, which puts you in more in touch with life, not less.

>Why do you think superheroes are so popular?
Not with chads
>People fantasize about being impossibly strong, smart, skilled, and righteous.
Maybe the betas that watch superhero films do
>But being the best isn't about what you do, it's about what you are.
Exactly, not matter what you do, you will never be a chad.
>know that no matter what you'll do you'll still lose anyways, and yet choosing to fight all the same.
Is this the cope of a non-chad because they certainly win at life.

Basically
>If you're not born a chad then fantasies are understandable because your not going to win at life but if you try really hard, you still won't win but at least you won't be as bad as the other non-chad that didn't try.

I agree with you, but then again, you must also take into account the reader's intent and most of them do indeed utilize fiction as a form of escapism.
