Foucault said that Marxism can only exist in continental philosophy like a fish in a barrel, but that it dies anywhere else. What did he mean by this, and what are the implications for this for communism as a total epistemic and political system, and does it explain why Marxism has collapsed?

>"Politically, Foucault was a leftist through much of his life, but his particular stance within the left often changed. In the early 1950s he had been a member of the French Communist Party, although he never adopted an orthodox Marxist viewpoint and left the party after three years, disgusted by the prejudice against Jews and homosexuals within its ranks. After spending some time working in Poland, then governed as a socialist state by the Polish United Workers' Party, he became further disillusioned with communist ideology. As a result, in the early 1960s he was considered to be "violently anticommunist" by some of his detractors, even though he was involved in leftist campaigns along with most of his students and colleagues"

Many commies also signed that law. In fact, the only major french intellectual who didn't sign it was Lacan, iirc.

I thought he said that about the 19th century. Did Foucault ever explicitly refer to himself as a continental philosopher?

Analytic Marxism is also a thing even if it never became a major trend.

Yes he did. It was a criticism that Marxism was still in the modern age, the episteme of 'man', and was no radical departure from the economics of Ricardo, say.
Also, analytic marxism is the most retarded thing ever
