Does reading mass amounts of literature, specifically western canon of philosophy and history, fundamentally change ones pscyhe?

I don't remember every passage I have read, but I feel more spirited in my day to day life. I truly understand the literary and historical context of my life.

No. Your understanding of it shapes you.
You could conceivably be misunderstanding something

I posit that you are a person who is excessively concerned with minor details and rules or with displaying academic learning

Anything that you do in massive amounts changes you, anything you do in small amounts also change you. I find it funny how dramatic people are about what they do, the ideal are always too huge. Why read "mass amounts of literature"? I mean, you may, nothing wrong, but the process is the same for a life of reading in small amounts: you just keep on reading stuff you like for as long as you like. It's like riding a bike, or ice skating, or reseaching mongolian bats (ie like anything).

It's impossible to misunderstand something. People just understand things in various different ways, then they accuse each other of misunderstanding it, and protect themselves with the same argument.

Literature mostly doesn't do much good. Stoic Philosophy on the other hand, can console you and give you a sense of peace like nothing else. Reading Seneca is an absolute delight and it legit makes me suffer less, I feel at ease and comforted. Bad thoughts go away and I don't blame myself so much but am finally free from brooding, worry and anxiety. Seneca is a master philosopher, the true wise sage.
