Thinking about writing a neo Western set in Afghanistan, tell me what you think

>American Marine kills an Afghan policeman who is raping a little boy (bacha bazi) and is arrested and to be tried for murder
>ends up escaping but killing other Marines in the process

You didn't parse what the OP says. The main character ends up defying his government (America's allies are deep into bacha bazi), killing other Marines, and becoming an outlaw and converting to Islam and going local, then later has to turn to the Taliban for help (some who have killed Americans, but now call him a brother) and that serves as a vehicle for him to further reevaluate his worldview. The story is not like how you envision at all

I am fully aware most Afghans oppose America's presence. A major theme of the book is blurring moral lines that are taken for granted by Americans about who the good guys and bad guys are. The Taliban are vicious, but they feel as strongly about bacha bazi as the main character does, they refuse to tolerate it, and in that he morally connects with them in a way despite having once been their mortal enemy.
