I dropped this since the first 30 pages of this was literally just something out of a erotica website for women. I think Mishima is incredibly over sentimental and lacks self awareness in a lot of what he writes. He seems very similar to western romantic bourgeois writers in that regard. His art is deeply foreign to the traditional Japanese/religious spirit and he reduces the Japanese imperium and its numen of power to simply fetish objects. It is rather bizarre and I don't see much of value in his work. Dazai seems better if you want sentimental Japanese writing and stuff like Kabuki and Noh seem better if you want to invoke the nationalist/imperial spirit.

I may tease Mishima a lot here but I actually like his work. He's well composed and each work has a vivid central theme well developed through the story and the characters are rendered with clarity and empathy. His prose is pleasant and overall any work of his is worth reading. However, it's very obvious everything of his is washed in homosexuality. Women are a distanced, enigmatic force which leads men to ruin, and you see that theme repeated in anything you pick up. I also believe he may have autism. That Noboru bit with the drawer was like something pulled off /r9k/.
