The honest question is if he is legitimate in his satisfaction in spending time that way. Ask yourself, in all you do, if it's something you really want to do. It doesn't matter what someone else thinks about it. What matters if you care about it. If you prefer modern genre fiction, read it. Read it and find the finest books within it. Report them here, so other anons can cut through the shit books and get to the meat of the genre.

Its not that I think fantasy or even fiction as a whole is impotent, its that eventually, the constructed worlds of fiction seem to fall flat in comparison the magnificent, real history unfolding before your eyes. Fiction that holds an awareness of this is usually the best, but so much of it, especially fantasy and sci-fi, come off as commodity fetishes
