It is good that it led to people read more books. Shame that many never grew out of it.

I read the books up to the order of the phoenix. Competently written YA fiction but they have very little substance at the end of the day.

Why would you need to read those books prior to Harry Potter? Is this a meme or am I missing something.

it's a joke/meme but at the same time has some truth in it hence it being a meme/joke. Such as Harry Potter in some cases drawing from the alchemical tradition.

I read the first 5 books cover to cover when I was poor and had stolen the books from the library because I was locked inside all day after school and had nothing else to do.

Then one day when I was about 14 or 15 I completely lost all interest. I think that was around the time I first discovered anime. I have less than 0 interest in them now, they're not terrible books but they just don't appeal to me anymore.

honestly, you just had to be there. if you weren't a kid or a teenager for the series, it's never going to appeal to you. it's good as children/ya lit, and it's really comfy and nostalgic if you read it when you were younger, but it's really just a 6-7/10 semi-solid straightforward fantasy series
hot take, I've read HP fanfic that are unironically better than classics of the western canon

>> No.13559840

Never interested me as a kid and sure as hell doesn't interest me as an adult. I did take the hat test and got Hufflepuff. That's fun to tell to people who like HP as from my understanding they're the least liked house but seem the comfiest to me.

>> No.13559848

I quite liked books 1, 2 and 5, to be honest.

>> No.13559889

Good reads, it's entertaining watching Rowling wrap herself up in this improv performance to figure out how her world works and the nonsensical mess it ends up being as a result. It's especially refreshing compared to the current obsession of sci fi and fantasy authors to try and be Tolkien with their world-building and inevitably not living up to that standard. They're not my favorite books but they're significantly better than average YA.

Hufflepuff has actually seen a recent surge in popularity, since as the former unpopular house, it was seen as free real estate by quirky girls to be even more quirky
honestly, I'd say the current least popular house is Slytherin, since most of the edgelords have left the fandom and the personality required to be in the house is relatively rare

I read the first 6 books
1 to 5 I kinda feel like I read just because it was the biggest thing at the time.
6 I was in too deep and the book did honestly give a lot of backstory on everything
7 was so popular I could never get a hold of the book from the library at school or home. By the time I could get a copy I didn't care about the series anymore.

Actually, I'm not sure I ever read the philosophers stone. I may have only seen the movie.
