If they were alive today, would they subscribe to any major religions?

>> No.13522438

Dunno but I'd subscribe to their YouTube channels for sure

>> No.13522521

Plato supposedly spent entire years studying under a priest of Horus and yet he didn't become one, he and Aristotle weren't particularly into their own days' major religions. More interestingly, Christianity and Gnosticism existed in Plotinus' days and he was no Christian or Gnostic, he wanted to study in India, though.
I just don't see what could formally converting to any mainstream religion possibly give them that God could not, and neither could they.

Plato, knowing that wisdom starts by realizing your own ignorance, and that humans are not perfect, would understand the importance of faith and the inability of humans to become perfectly united with God in the afterlife without divine intervention, no matter how many good works we perform. He would therefore become a Christian.

They'd blow their brains out for one.
Now if they don't do that, their bodies will start violently convulsing and dissolving from the awful acidic and disgusting processed food that they'd probably have to consume in this time with us here.
If they survive the food (and air) they'd probably also go insane from the just disgusting appearance of people today, that and how ugly and inharmonious all of the infrastructure is.
And then if they make it to reading a book or whatever they'd just be disgusted by how much useful information is just disregarded by society in order that this whole, degenerate mode of modern life perpetuates itself.

So I'd say they'd become Christian upon learning of Christ and take it to repeat his actions by going out on the streets preaching peoples retardations before finally getting shot by the cops.

Plotinus would become a Hindu, Aquinas probably a Muslim (trinity doesn't work with his logic), Plato would most likely become a Rastafarian and smoke weed all day

The Romans and Greeks mocked Judaism for lacking a philosophical background, so early Christians cribbed the entirety of Platonism (Orthodoxy) and Aristolelianism (Catholicism) in order to attract Greek converts. Because of this, Plato and Aristotle are "Righteous Pagans" in that they got to Purgatory before the Harrowing of Hell (whereas before, being anything but a Jew immediately sent you to hell).

>>13522432
Do you mean if they were born in their present locations? Plato and Aristotle would be Greek Orthodox, Plotinus would be a Sunni Muslim.

>Christianity and Gnosticism existed in Plotinus' days and he was no Christian or Gnostic

Plotinus as mediate through Porphyry isn't reliable. Porphyry despises Christianity while Plotinus conspicuously remained silent. It's very possible that his teacher, Ammonius Saccas, was a Christian.

Sufism is closer to Neoplatonism than Sunnism.
>>13522931
Diogenes wouldn't be able to get away with half of the shit he did in ancient Athens before he is arrested, committed to a mental institution, and force fed pills. If the philosophers of Classical Antiquity were alive today, they would end up as chemically lobotomized drones like the rest of us.
>>13522438
You can almost hear the debates between Plotinus and eceleb Gnostics.

>Sufism is closer to Neoplatonism than Sunnism.
Plotinus was born in Northern Egypt to a Greco-Egyptian family, so again if we're assuming he was born today he'd be born into a Sunni family (again, assuming he was born into a family of the most common religion in the area now as he was then).

I would agree of course that if these men had lived through the events that occurred, somehow, they'd most likely be Muslims. I can't see Plato accepting it earnestly, but I can certainly see him playing along. Aristotle would make a good Muslim, especially if he was aware of how much more to heart Islamic philosophy took his works than Christian philosophy did. Plotinus would certainly dig Sufism.

well both plato and aristotle were from Greece, so Eastern Orthodox Christians. Plotinus is more tricky, he'd be either a Sufi, Coptic Orthodox, or again, Eastern Orthodox Christian since he was from Egypt

I should add the plato, aristotle & plotinus where pagans, and they interpreted their religious milieu through the hermeneutic of their metaphysics. Neoplatonism was essentially the theology of graeco-roman paganism, it would be wrong to read back into them modern rationalism.
