I know the feeling. I bought the Hackett version of Nichomacean ethics and only about a 1/3 of the whole book is Aristotle. I was a little let down

I did, it's just saddening that there wasn't as much to the book as I thought. Luckily I bought it used and not at full price

The other night I went to read this novel and there was a very short foreword. Usually I never read these stuff, but it was short, so I was like "eh". In just two fucking pages, this little cocksucker managed to tell the end of the story and the important plot twist before it just to emphasize that "it is a universal story that resonates deeply within blabla". I don't care about spoilers for tv shows or whatnot but that was a fucking 600 pages investment of my time. Fucking little four-eyed bastard, probably very proud of him and of the importance of his work. This made me want to catch aids, so I could fuck his old hag of a wife, thereby cucking and condemning him to death when he'll pathetically fuck her on their usual, yearly coitus. These men need to be hunted down and put to slavery in coal mines, idk. This really made me understand why people would want to burn books. I'm really still mad about this

Hot take: always skip the forwards and introductions and read them after the book is over. Often times it spoils the book, so I always skip them.

I concur with your anger, my friend. Allow me to tell you my personal rule:

"Do not read forewords or introductions whatsoever, unless it was included in the very first edition of the book's publishing. You may read the foreword/introduction after reading the real book."

With Translator's Introductions, it's a grey area unfortunately. Usually I read the first couple pages of it, where they say the most important shit, and then move on to the actual book.

I never read introductions to Ancient Greek works, it's all rehashings of the Dionysia or geographical pedantry.
