How often do you consult the dictionary while reading a book?

I'm trying to increase my vocabulary, so I always jot down the words I don't know to search for the meaning later, though I also tend to consult the meaning immediately, but I prefer jot them down somewhere to keep checking the words later and memorize them.

haha brainlet, you probably didn’t read as a kid or ur vocab would be bigger. I was reading shxpeare at age 6 so i never look up words because i know them all ;)

Fix'd.

I'm not a native English speaker.
Started studying English on my own when I was 17. I'm 21 now.

This is one benefit of using an e-reader. Just highlight a word and you'll get the definition right away.

Didn't know that.
Guess it's time to buy an e-reader. It'll save so much time.
Thanks.

Infinite Jest really sold me on the e-reader experience. I was constantly needing to look up definitions and open footnotes. It would have been pretty tedious to do by hand.

For reference, I have an old Nook color. I'm not sure what sort of capabilities other devices have but it seems like basic functionality.

Usually I write words I don't know in a notebook and then look up their definitions on the internet or in a physical dictionary and add it to the entry. I usually add about 2 words a week if I'm lucky and can actually sit down and read

Kindles are best for this. When you look up a word it stores it in its "vocabulary builder" and if you go on that you can use flash cards and the like to learn the words you've previously looked up.

You have to admit that rendering Shakespeare as Shxpeare is fairly nifty, even if he did not come up with it himself.

I'm lazy so I usually just figure it out using context clues. I almost never consult a dictionary unless I literally cant figure out wtf is happening.

I hardly need it when I'm reading in my native language. I occasionally look some english words up, and frequently for german and spanish words.
