Has the opioid epidemic produced any noteworthy writing or is it too early to say yet?

There is no opioid epidemic. It is made up to justify law enforcement's budgets now that cannabis is becoming legalized. Recreational opioid use peaked in the 1990s and iatrogenic rates of addiction were always less than 1%. They appeal to gross numbers but fail to mentioned how these "millions of pills" boil down per capita, and adjusting for BID+ dosing halved if not further. Opioid epidemic is a meme and relies on anecdotes and distorted data to make appear true.

actual question: why do people do drugs? t. has had a shitty life and never touched drugs, never even abused alcohol
>costs money, which is killer if you're poor. i'd rather have a good solid meal if i had extra money, or put it in the account as a cushion for the next blow
>takes knowledge, time, and effort to obtain
>risk of legal trouble...if i already have a ton of issues that is the LAST thing i want to deal with
>impairs your health, ultimately will cost $$$, like meth mouth repairs, etc.
>screws up your sleep schedule and potential productive time, which you could be using to get out of your shitty circumstances
>makes you gross, degrades your value
>positive drug test will fuck your job chances, dooming you to poverty
i mean...??? why tf??? my parents did drugs and i still don't understand why. are they just retarded?

I've seen this photo before but for some reason it has only just hit me how preposterously fucked up it is. I think the first couple times I saw it my brain couldn't even process the level of sadness it is now evoking in me. That little boy looks almost identical to my older brother when he was that age. No expression on his face. He will literally never forget that scene.
Really, it blows all the cartel face-skinnings and animal abuse gifs out the window.

well, yeah i guess, since i've seen it first hand. i had to be the responsible parent...even at age 10 i was doing the cooking and assuring the bills were paid. but anyway. do people NOT realize, somehow, that drugs make you a filthy gutter dwelling loser? it's common sense.

>>13512512
idk, if shit is fucking your life it's easier to stop doing it. like say i had an eating addiction and was getting fat...just stop eating so much and your problem goes away. it's lazier to not be an addict. ? idk, feels like being addicted to anything is a bunch of bother and takes effort.

No, it takes a lot of willpower. I was actually anorexic at one point. Weak people will choose the short term benefits of a harmful substance instead of the harder path that pays off in the long run.

Listen, shit like meth and heroine and opioids in general are not worth anyone time.
However;
>costs money
yes, this is true of many things
>takes knowledge to obtain
that is only most of the time true. I've been offered drugs randomly, but I live in a very drug-high area.
>legal trouble
not the fault of the drugs themselves, only really, actually bad shit like meth and heroine and prolly crack too should be illegal. But yes the worst part of drugs is getting caught with them.
>impairs health
Absolutely true. But, in small calculated doses, LSD, Shrooms, Weed and Caffeine can have practical effects. They too, like alcohol and even shitty food, damage health, though. Don't use them too much. See the relationship of drugs and theoretical physics.
>Screws up sleep
This is why you gotta have a plan beforehand, a set time and place. Not willy nilly and not too often.
>Makes you gross
That is a matter of opinion.
>Job removal
Again, worst part is getting caught.
Don't misconstrue, most drug users are idiot hippies who just want to feel good. But banning drugs is not the answer. We need government regulated drugs and prostitution and euthinization

Almost everyone has a "drug" in a sense. Drugs are the worst drugs obviously, but almost everyone uses unhealthy coping mechanisms to handle the disappointments of civilized life and/or cope with the confusing nightmare that conscience existence throws you into. Often those unhealthy copes are simply defense mechanisms. Drugs can offer an escape from your shit reality. Gorging yourself on sweets pushes your dopamine buttons and offers some relief. A persons emotional blind spots are a way of ignoring certain undesirable aspects of their life. Sober men will beat their families, too, if you catch my drift.

Being an addict is easy because whatever your addicted to fits into your being like a puzzle piece you were always missing.

For opiates and heroin a lot of people who get addicted to them are given too many painkillers by their doctors for various reasons and they end up addicted before they realize it. It almost happened to me after a knee surgery. I was supposed to take 2 norco pills twice a day but only took 1/4 of one because I didn't feel like I needed all that much and they still kinda snuck up on me. About a week later I kinda realized I was taking them because they felt good, not because of any pain. I stopped and my leg hurt worse than it had those first couple of days. It was pretty scary how I became even that little bit dependent in such a short amount of time on such a lowered dose.
