Get the Arthur Waley translation. It's just some history book, if you dig Herodotus you will probably like this.

You certainly get a feel for them, but it isn't specifically about such things. It is an idealised history which the Mongols wished to keep from their Chinese subjects, I suppose on the principle of pas devant les enfant. It is not very long as I recall, you might want to just read it and see for yourself.
