Yes, it does so does make the book (slightly more) difficult to read. You (that is, people in general) objectively cannot page as efficiently to the inner edge of the zig-zag pattern without slowing down and using finer motor skill and concentration, a nuisance.

This suggestion admits defeat on the basic functional problem of deckled edges. But even leaving this aside, most books are in "portrait" orientation, with the result that it is much, much easier to page on the sides of the pages. Again, the above would be an inconvenience.
