Just finished pic related. Why did Socrates go full autismo claiming that our souls are immortal? Was the immortal soul a common belief in Greco-Roman civilization?

It was necessary for his philosophy to make sense. A lot of the earlier presocratics were influenced by zoroastrianism. Particularly eleatic presocratics believed this, like Parmenides and pythagoras. Plato and Socrates were heavily influenced by eleatics and used it to respond to ionian philosophers who believed everything changed and nothing was similar.

If your soul isn't immortal then the world of forms means nothing and you don't remember things and instead learn them anew.

Most pieces in philosophy aren't added wildly Billy but because it necessarily follows from one of two knowledge sources (senses or brain)

The whole idea of there being an immaterial world is silly. And quite literally objectively false even in the context of religion.

Do you think justice exists or math?

He was actually based and jivanmukti-pilled, he knew about Atman (not literally that word though but whatever the corresponding greek term was). Because he was initiated into one of those ancient mystery cults that we hear so much about, they transmitted this knowledge back in those days. That's my theory

OP here and thank you for context. I'm a 3rd year philosophy undergrad and I haven't read nearly enough philosophy, except for Kant and some of his influences/critics.

Which philosophy meme should I read next to flex on my peers? Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit or some Kierkegaard seems interesting.

Hegel is a lot later I personally recommend at least after stoics (similar becoming ideas) and kant. I 100% would dive into either descartes or German idealism.

OP here signing off to hit the gym and get some nuggets. What read if wanna actualize my true self and tear off the shackles from other people's perceptions. From what I know about Hegel's Master/Slave dialectic, Phenomenology of Spirit seems like a good choice.

This being said you should try and get to really practical stuff like philosophy of language

Oh no no, if that's your goal you've gotta go Kierkegaard or Nietzsche
