first 50 pages i felt like neo being redpilled but now it's just chomsky quoting articles and listing statistics in surreal run on sentences of scholarly academic nonsense, the whole thing has actually become a void of anti-meaning and i would rather just listen to the mainstream media and be an enabler of imperialist war crimes than finish reading this book

I'm reading some articles on brain-mind dualism, written by a neurologist who actually disagrees that the mind can be reduced to physical processes. It's actually surprisingly convincing and insightful. He has a gift for eloquence and breaks down arguments in a pretty clear way. I've always been suspicious of the physical/material reductionist position in the philosophy of the mind, especially after, ironically, pursuing science, but I think he has finally sold me on it.

I'm too early to say whether or not it's good, but it seems promising. The language is pleasant, and while it has an AAAA rhyming scheme with suffix rhymes quite often, it still doesn't feel tiring, especially how it avoids idiotic a lot of poets from eras past fell into, which is using a verb expressing existence, ending each line in something that means approximately "this it was" or "thus it happened" "thus it came to be", which gets incredibly grating by the end of the first verse.
Now I'm just hoping it has heroic qualities that rival the Nibelungenlied, the best epic that ever graced humanity, but I doubt that's the case, since it's not a "personal revenge" story, but a Christian epic in the vein of Tasso.

I picked up the Youjo Senki light novels after seeing the anime, and just finished the first volume.
My intuition about the book and its writer wasn't wrong, and on page 3 it talks about the Stanford Prison Experiment, on page 8 we hit the Chicago School of Economics, and before being halfway through the book there's Rawls' Theory of Justice.

The writing style is.. rather unique, and it doesn't feel like that is solely the case due to translation.
Also, there is an afterword by the author at the end, and its subtext feels like a threat, in the vein of "I won't kill the protagonist, but I will do things that will make you wish they were dead, because it would be a mercy."

It doesn't seem like things will get extremely heavy quite yet, or at the least won't reach their peak, judging by the covers of volumes that haven't yet been translated painting much grimmer depictions of the character, but I am at this weird juncture where I feel that I occasionally need to emotionally prepare myself to continue reading the next volume or next chapter, just in case.
