Would a story Writtle in complex prose or verse like Canterbury Tales be published in today's world?

Asking for a friend.

Masturbation is the worse vice a man can have. I'd rather be a heroin addict.

Would readers be interested in verse/prose?

No. Invisible style rules the day. They won't read your manuscript otherwise. Modern fiction is the domain of the airport novel and most adults can't read beyond 6th grade prose.

And to add it is sad that there are pulps in the 30's-40's that had more complex prose than what is written today and it was read by the mouth breathers of that era.

If you do it well enough, sure.

Nothing well-written is guaranteed to be successful. Just do what you want.

Not to toot my own horn but I am a darn good writer but in the way literature classics are well written. I couldn't and wouldn't care to make a Twilight, Fifty Shades or whatever globohomo book of the month you find on normies shelves.

Your best shot to self publish. Occasional people with denser prose makes it but they usually have friends in literary academia logrolling for them.

It's a confusing example. The cantebury tales are mostly complex because they are old English. Would a book in old English be published today? No.

It depends on how it's complex. Pynchon? Yes. Dickens? No.

Not OP. Do you think something like M&D (pynch's mag opus imo) would be published today by a new author with perhaps a few short stories in publication or has this brand of writing passed vogue. Is there anyone being published currently you'd put in this sphere. I'm not necessarily asking you solely/specifically.

I chose Canterbury Tales because of the subject matter and use of metaphorical imagery to convey politically charged ideas in a discreet manner.
Nothing like pynchon.
Something like Dickens would be a closer analogue.

I'm considering that or a Christian publisher.

no, history has shown that style is gay and should be avoided
