I live in Alabama. Segregation is pretty much in effect in high school.They do this by having 'normal classes' and having 'honors classes', which are supposed to be harder. There were a few blacks in my classes but they were 'clean' blacks who were intelligent and respectable. Though in reality probably half the schools population were blacks.

They also have schools that are called 'magnet schools' that kick out people who make terrible grades. Only like 20% of the population was black when I was in middle school.

The school board just did some redrawing of the map they use to determine what school one goes to. Now schools are like 80% black, 20% white. It's terrible.

There are many studies on the topic but most do a poor job at taking enviromental variables into account; they just omit them and just atribute all the variability to what they call "genetics" or "ancestry".
Heres an example of a study with twins that just takes into account socioeconomical status, a very relevant variable when it comes to measure enviromental influence, ofcourse there are many more that should not be disregarded.

I went to a school district here in the Midwest that was 1/4th black. Unironically based. I had a lot of black friends and it was a blast. Played basketball and soccer with them a lot. My best friend was a black guy on the varsity soccer team with me. Most of them didn't take school seriously then, and neither did I. depends on your age, when I was like 9 I was put in a school where everyone pretty much were older than me. I got chubby pretty quick too. Mom kept insisting I was 'big boned'. Was pushed down stairs, randomly beaten while walking between classes or to the cafeteria, recorded while going to the toilet, verbally abused on the daily, etc, etc. My mom wanted to have a girl too so I had long hair at the time. Dad didn't care much, just worked and worked.
