What's a good book for an intelligent 11 year old boy, /lit/?

He likes reading, and I want to get my little brother a good book he can cherish with nostalgia for Christmas.

the Henry Huggins series is good

My Side of the Mountain is a great book, too.

Gimme some kind of reading level. Grade, Lexile, or just some examples of things he's read.

I'll check those out man, thanks.

I'm not quite sure, he goes to a private school and all I know that he reads is Harry Potter and The Percy Jackson series.

He's fascinated by ancient mythologies and legends.

Oh, yeah. I remember The Sea of Trolls got me interested in reading. I used to hate it before that.

Oh god this.

Get him this translation:

The Penguin one is very, very incomplete. I'm not being a translation snob, it is missing like 1/4 of the Eddas.

Watership Down

And/or Kipling.

Or if you're overstating yourself, (or perhaps I'm overestimating) get him some good sci-fi books.
Give a list of what he's read maybe.

Jurassic Park
The Lost World

I read a lot of Michael Crichton when I was a kid. And these will always be two of my favorite books. I know they're not literary gems, but for a smart kid they were super entertaining.
