I read the first half of Augustine's City of God and I don't think I can take any more. I sat through hundreds of pagws of him complaining about pagans and now he's saying shit like
>six is a perfect and meaningful number and here's why
>oh also SEVEN is a perfect and meaningful number and here's why
Do I really need to know this shit? I'm probably just going to find summaries for the remaining books.

Also what are your thoughts on the Kybalion and Hermeticism in general?

Lad if you're getting pleb filtered already Hermeticism is only going to go deeper. But do not fret little anon. Persevere. It will be worth it in the end.

Also how can people take this seriously when he says shit like
>given the choice of living in misery forever or existing no more, every man will certainly choose the former
>given the choice of misery and knowledge or joy and ignorance, every man will certainly choose the former
These are from Book XI btw

Speak English you autist. I'm rereading the Kybalion and while I don't believe everything it says I find some of it philosophically interesting. Just want to hear any criticisms.

The former is logically deducted though and does make rational sense. If presented with the option of possible eternal suffering or non existence, only the former is a negative outcome. So one should live in a way that avoids this outcome, because the latter is irrelevant.

Only an idiot would want to be a genius, and only geniuses want to be idiots.
They are mathematically the same.

That anon is completely correct. Knowledge accompanied by misery is always preferable to ignorance. Likewise, existence - and all its forms of suffering - is preferable to non-existence

As the other anon said, brush up on your logic before you go into a text as massive as that

Probably because Ecclesiastes says that wisdom produces sorrow and the general disapproval surrounding the cardinal sin of suicide. Why even read City of God if you can't recognize that he is operating within an established theological tradition?

What did you expect? It's important because it was influential on the church and momma's boys who don't understand what hard work is identify with Saint Gus.
If you want to enjoy what you're reading pick up some literature.

>Also what are your thoughts on the Kybalion and Hermeticism in general?
Ancient self-help books.
