Does anyone else ravenously consume books, or any type of media really, in order to make up for a lack of intimacy in life, or just filling up some hole in your overall being? Constantly eating up information and stimulus due to lacking any meaningful relationships or sense of purpose in life? This may be ironic to ask, but any books on such a topic would be appreciated.

The reverse. Broke up with a gf of 2 yrs about a month ago because too often when we were out or even alone together I couldn't help but feel like I'd rather be reading/writing.

Yes, absolutely. Plus the faint hope that there will be some sort of answer/purpose in books, but no luck on that so far. And yet also the reverse, as above, since I broke up with my bf because he was less interesting than my books.

How To Read Lacan by Slavoj Zizek. You will be bored. Then read Lacan, and supplement his seminars with copious critique.
And read Alasdair MacIntyre. You need to understand both desire and virtue, modern desire and modern virtue, to make the progressions you need. These are not the only paths, but they are tried and true, so much so that, if dedicated, you will not fail.

Yes, but I am about at the end of that, too. There's no point, it's pretty much a movie playing for itself at this point as no one knows what the hell I am talking about and /lit/ is becoming more and more of a shithole everyday.
It just makes me complexly tired now. Yes I can now read and understand Badiou, Levinas, Hegel, etc. but what's the point if it leads to nothing meaningful in its own end. It is as Zeami says in his essay on yugen, the one who seeks beauty is beautiful. I know I cannot create beauty myself, I only exist now to seek the truly beautiful.

This is why I stopped reading philosophy. At least I will die happy with fiction that touches the human soul.
